The German federal government took the initiative to found FNR in 1993. The 65 members of FNR
comprise 4 federal ministries, 16 “Länder” ministries
and nominated representatives of industrial, economic and agricultural
associations and federations, as well as associations for nature conservation.
As the central co-ordinating agency in Germany, FNR is charged with ensuring a
practice-, problem-, and result-oriented pooling of activities for the
promotion of renewable resources.
FNR is national or project co-ordinator in several European information
and dissemination networks supported under the research and energy programmes
of the European Commission.
